Cannabis was originally a local herb used in cooking and as an ingredient in Thai herbal formulas. It has been widely used in Thailand since ancient times, but its use had to be stopped according to the 1961 United Nations Convention on Narcotic Drugs Control, making cannabis illegal in Thailand. Anyone who plants or uses it is subject to criminal charges, causing Thais to stop planting and using it. The knowledge of planting and using cannabis has also disappeared. Some are secretly planted and used underground, but not many. Knowledge of cannabis has not been developed openly and systematically. However, in foreign countries, knowledge of cannabis has been developed. There is a lot of research showing that cannabis can be used to produce medicines to treat various diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Crohn's, Parkinson's, Tourette's, psoriasis, etc., including many diseases that modern medicine cannot cure. Therefore, people and various agencies have thought about using cannabis in food, cosmetics, and medicine. The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine itself will use cannabis to produce Metta Osot and Karun Osot herbal formulas.
But since medical-quality cannabis must come from a quality greenhouse that can withstand all weather conditions, prevent insects, soil, and water from being contaminated with heavy metals, because cannabis absorbs minerals into the plant very quickly, it must have systematic quality control. Growing cannabis for long-term results therefore requires knowledge and research to support it, which requires personnel with agricultural knowledge, capital, time, and determination to achieve the goal.
The Herbal and Health Tourism Community Enterprise (Phuket) saw the importance and problems mentioned above and was ready in terms of knowledge, capital, time and determination to grow cannabis to medical standards for the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine for the benefit of patients. There was some income from the remaining. Therefore, an agreement was made with the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine to produce cannabis for medical benefits by giving the cannabis flowers to the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine to produce the Metta Osot, Karun Osot and other formulas.
